Jule Ann Kreutler, a 97-year-old resident at Life Care Center of the South Shore in Scituate, Massachusetts, is being recognized nationwide for her artistic talent.
Each year, parent company Life Care Centers of America invites residents in more than 200 nursing and rehab facilities to submit Christmas card designs, and one piece is chosen for each of the organization’s geographical divisions. A total of eight designs are printed and distributed to facilities and regional offices throughout the company.
Kreutler’s painting of two women riding in a horse-drawn sleigh was chosen as the winner for Life Care’s Northeast Division, which includes facilities in Ohio, Massachusetts, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Rhode Island.
“I was shocked and delighted to learn that I had won,” said Kreutler. “My family was also surprised.”
When asked what her inspiration for the piece was, Kreutler replied, “It was a spur of the moment thing – I imagined two women riding in a sleigh. I wanted to create a peaceful and happy scene.”
Born and raised in northern New Jersey, Kreutler attended Newark State Teachers College. In 1944, she married Joe Kreutler. The couple had five children and moved to Scituate in 1963.
Kreutler enjoys traveling, bridge and gardening. She has five grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
